INTERVIEW: dnny
Hi dnny, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’ve been amazing, so busy but in the best way.
Can you talk to us about your upcoming single “villain”?
So “villain” is a song about acceptance. Everybody’s different, everybody’s weird, but why is that bad? As an artist, I’m obviously not the most conventional or traditional guy, but there’s no right or wrong way to live or be. I just think that’s a really important message for where we’re at right now in society. I think sonically it represents the direction I’ll be headed in, it’s uplifting and very pop but with some hip-hop flare for sure. Most importantly I really hope the message resonates with people.
Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?
I mean I was just talking with Katie and Will, who I worked with the song on, about how I’m never gonna be the guy who wears a suit and can fix cars and knows everything about insurance policies. Of course, I’m growing and learning as I get older but by nature that’s just not my style. So we started writing with that in mind.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
I do have an acoustic video I made that I’m pumped to put out!
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing session was probably my favorite session I’ve had. It was my first time meeting Will, and Katie and I always vibe in sessions. Once Will got the track up and we started riffing on it, things really just took off and came together so smoothly. By the end of the session, we had the song done and we were just rockin’ out to it so hard, and Will and I were already best friends.
What role does Nashville play in your music?
Well first off, I’ve met so many incredible writers, artists, and producers in Nashville so I get to work on music with them which just takes everything to the next level. I’d also say that I’ve found Nashville to really value the craft of songwriting, and telling a story. There’s just heavy emphasis placed on the lyric in this town and I love that, because you can have a hooky pop song on the charts but it’s the story that keeps it around for years past its release.
Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes, I’m rolling out 6-7 singles this year! It’s coming along great I’ve already got all the songs tracked and more for past this year, got a lot in the tank. Literally so excited to share it with the world.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Can’t reveal that just yet, but I can promise you there are some big things coming.
Any plans to hit the road?
I’ll be playing some shows for sure, and I mean I would love to put some sort of tour together at some point. At this moment I’m still just kind of introducing myself to the world, spreading my message, and getting things rolling. So not yet, but absolutely at some time in the near future.
What is happening next in dnny’s world?
So the single comes out 2/21, and we’re hoping to keep getting pre-saves on the song leading up to then. There’s a huge prize that you can win from pre-saving, so you should totally do it. But other than that just working on more music, honing the craft, and promoting villain!
